U.S. Senate Approves New Envoy to Austria

Vienna, June 27, 2008

The U.S. Senate voted on July 27, 2008 to confirm David F. Girard-diCarlo as America's new envoy to the Republic of Austria.

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania resident is a lawyer and business and community leader. Among other accomplishments, he led and managed Blank Rome LLP for 25 years. Blank Rome is one of the top 100 law firms headquartered in the United States.

Following Senate approval of ambassadorial nominations, the President attests the confirmation and then a swearing-in is held. Mr. Girard-diCarlo is expected to be sworn in on Tuesday, July 1, departing with his wife, Connie, for Austria soon thereafter. Once in Austria, as is customary, the new chief of the U.S. Embassy to Austria will be identified as Ambassador-designate until he formally presents his credentials to the President of the Republic of Austria.
