Digesting the Food Problem

Bruno Kreisky Forum
Vienna, September 24, 2009

Nutrition expert and New York University professor Marion Nestle visited Austria on a speaker program on food security organized by the U.S. Embassy Vienna's Public Affair Section. On September 24, Professor Nestle spoke at the standing-room-only Kreisky Forum for Dialogue, an Austrian think tank that co-hosted the event. She underscored that personal responsibility for nutrition has remained unchanged over the decades but that social responsibility of public health institutions must be increased worldwide. Students in the audience in particular engaged in a lively Q & A with Nestle on food security. In the media breakfast preceding her lecture, Marion Nestle presented her message to a broader audience that everyone has to be proactive in improving the food system and the market environment, where food is sold.
