Battle of the U.S. Army Europe and Austrian Military Bands - Both Were Winners
Korneuburg
May 13, 2009
A rare musical summit took place in Vienna’s neighboring city of Korneuburg when the town hosted an open-air concert with the U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus and the Military Band of Lower Austria. Starting with a fanfare from the town hall’s balcony, the program continued with both bands presenting not just typical military marches but also a journey through the rich musical heritage each country has to offer, including Classic, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Swing and even Dixie. At the end of the two-and-a-half-hour program, the ensembles joined forces for Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” and Strauss’ “Radetzkymarsch.”
The 350 to 400 spectators greatly enjoyed this showcase of cultural exchange and gave both bands long, standing ovations. The event was jointly organized by the Embassy, the city of Korneuburg and the Austrian Armed Forces.
