Austrian-African Community Celebrates First African-American President
Amerika Haus
Vienna, January 20, 2009
The U.S. Embassy opened Vienna’s Amerika Haus to the Austrian African community, representatives of immigration/integration NGOs and Austrian politicians to celebrate Inauguration Day. Political and Economic Counselor Dean Yap, U.S. Embassy Vienna, welcomed the crowd, pointing to the unusually high interest the world takes in President Obama. Austrian politicians and integration experts who addressed the audience all agreed that minorities and immigrants have better chances to succeed in U.S. mainstream society than in Europe. The event concluded with the live coverage of the Inauguration Ceremony in Washington. Austrian National TV (ORF) as well as local immigrant community channels covered the celebration at Amerika Haus.
