Black History Month Concert Vibrates Vienna's Amerika Haus Amerika Haus
More than 120 guests celebrated Black History Month at a concert organized by the Public Affairs Section. Held at Amerika Haus on February 25, the concert featured performances by Lynne Kieran, Carole Alston, and Eddie Cole. Accompanied by Bernhard Eder (piano), Ivan Machado (bass), and Shayan Fathi (drums), the singers performed rousing jazz, poignant blues and mournful soul pieces. The musical numbers were punctuated by dramatic readings by Allen Brown of significant texts relating to African-American history such as the Emancipation Proclamation and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as well as the memoirs of Booker T. Washington, Coretta Scott King and Barack Obama. In his welcoming remarks, Assistant Public Affairs Officer Steve Labensky emphasized the significance of Black History Month and the Embassy’s activities relating to it. |
