American Football Is Getting Popular in Austria
Hotel Marriott
Vienna, July 15, 2009
Counselor for Public Affairs Bob Hugins, U.S. Embassy Vienna, participated in a press conference congratulating Austria on its confirmation to be the host nation for the fourth IFAF Senior World Championship, which will be played in three cities in June or July of 2011. The Austrian capital of Vienna will be the venue for several games, as will be the cities of Linz and Graz. The growing popularity of American Football in the country may have been decisive for the choice of Austria as the venue for the championship. The United States will defend the title it won in Japan in 2003 at the fourth IFAF Senior World Championship and Austria will qualify automatically as the host nation. On this occasion, Mr. Hugins presented Alexander Taheri, Vikings Vienna, with the Austrian American Football's 'Young Star of the Year' Trophy.
