Austro-American Society for Upper Austria Mounts 60th Anniversary

Redoutensäle
Linz, October 15, 2009

On October 15, the  Austro-American Society for Upper Austria organized a gala evening to celebrate the friendship chapter’s 60th anniversary at the historic Redoutensäle in Linz.  The program included speeches by Governor of Upper Austria Josef Pühringer, City of Linz Stadtrat Johann Mayr, Austro-American Society President Albert Rohan, and U.S. Ambassador to Austria William C. Eacho, III.  The President of the Austro-American Society for Upper Austria, Josef Weissl, and his deputy, Linda Tuttle-Weidinger, acted as hosts and led the audience of more than 300 through the evening.  A film documentary by Georg Steinböck, which included interviews with long-standing members as well as historic footage, spotlighted the Society’s role as a meeting ground for Austrian youth and for introducing U.S. culture and values in post-war Austria.  Musical performances, including a “Schuhplattler”, a yodel and “Happy Birthday” by the St. Florianer Sängerknaben as well as Jazz standards by ‘belle étage’ Jazz ensemble punctuated the program.
