    For U.S. Citizens:

    • Working for the Foreign Service: Career information with the Department of State is available at http://www.state.gov/employment/


    • Internships with the U.S. Department of State: American citizen undergraduate/graduate students may be eligible for various Department of State student programs, including internships and fellowships both in the U.S. and overseas. Internships with the Tri-Missions Vienna are coordinated centrally at the Department of State in Washington and not in Vienna.     • Internships with the U.S. Department of Commerce: American citizens interested in an internship with the U.S. Commercial Service in Vienna should be enrolled full time at an accredited university, fluent in German and English, and capable of professional communications with the Austrian business community.     • U.S. Citizen Locally Engaged Staff: For local positions with the Tri-Missions Vienna, please see our vacancy announcements on the page: Vacancies. All applicants must be residing in country and have the required residence permits for employment in Austria. Applicants are requested to follow the application procedures as indicated on the announcements. Only applications for specifically advertised applications will be considered.

    For Austrians and other Nationalities:

    • Foreign National Locally Engaged Staff: All vacancy announcements are listed on the page: Vacancies, generally for two weeks. All applicants must be residing in country and have the required residence permits for employment in Austria. Applicants are requested to follow the application procedures as indicated on the announcements. Only applications for specifically advertised applications will be considered.


    • Foreign National Student Program: This program is designed for students at Austrian Universities, who are not U.S. citizens, seeking internships with the Tri-Missions Vienna. It offers students the challenge of working in a foreign affairs arena. Internships range from 2 to 4 months. No benefits, compensation, nor any future employment rights accrue as a result of an internship. Selected students will undergo security checks and will be required to provide evidence of health insurance. Please note that applicants must be registered as full time students at a University or "Fachhochschule" in Austria. Vacant internship positions will be advertised on the page: Internship Announcements and University notice boards/jobsites. Applicants are requested to follow the application procedures as indicated on the announcements.


    • Internships with the U.S. Department of Commerce: Residents of Austria who are not American citizens may qualify for an internship with the U.S. Commercial Service in Vienna. Candidates should be enrolled full time at an accredited university or other institution of higher learning, fluent in German and English, and capable of professional communications with the Austrian business community.
