  • Austrian e-passport valid for Visa Waiver Program travel (travel without a visa)

  • All Austrian e-passports issued to adults on or after June 16, 2006 (with an integrated chip and a digital photo) may be used for Visa Waiver Program travel until the passport's expiration date.

  • Austrian passports (including children's passports) issued prior to October 26, 2005 are valid for Visa Waiver Program travel

  • Holders of valid machine-readable passports issued before October 26, 2005 may use these passports for Visa Waiver Program travel until the passport's expiration date.
  • Austrian passports issued between October 26, 2005 and June 16, 2006

  • Holders of valid Austrian passports issued or extended between October 26, 2005 and June 16, 2006 need a visa in order to travel to the United States. Passports containing the previously used "Vignette" cannot be used for Visa Waiver Program travel any more, since the validity of all "Vignettes" expired on October 26, 2006.
Alternatively, holders of passports issued between October 26, 2005 and June 16, 2006 may also consider applying for a new Austrian e-passport.

  • Children's passport without chip

  • Children's passport (without a chip) issued between June 16, 2006 and October 25, 2006 may be used for Visa Waiver Program travel until the passport's expiration date.
Please note that children included in a parent's passport cannot use the Visa Waiver Program. They either would need a visa or alternately, apply for their own passport in order to use the Visa Waiver Program.

  • Children's passport with chip

  • On October 26, 2006 Austria began issuing children's passports with chips. Therefore, all Austrian children's passports with chips issued on or after October 26, 2006 may be used for Visa Waiver Program travel.

  • Austrian emergency (off-white) passport

  • Austrian emergency (off-white cover) passports issued on or after January 1, 2007 may be used for Visa Waiver Program travel.

Please note that all passport regulations listed above apply for transit purposes through the United States as well.
