Fees (to be paid in cash)

Adults: Euro 175
Children under 15 years of age: Euro 75

Required Documents

Please bring the following with you to the examination:
- Valid passport (valid for six months beyond the intended date of entry into the United States),
- 3 photographs,
- vaccination records,
- fees
- and tests/results of any disabilities or illnesses.

Blood Test and X-Ray

Immigrant visa applicants under 15 years of age do not require a blood test or X-rays. Female applicants who are pregnant do not require X-rays.

A blood test for antibody to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is required if the applicant is age fifteen (15) or older as part of the medical examination. HIV is the virus that is the cause of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). AIDS is the name given to a group of illnesses which may occur in persons infected with HIV. Infection with HIV causes a defect in a person's natural immunity against disease. This defect leaves infected people vulnerable to serious illnesses that would not usually be a threat to anyone whose immune system was intact. This test is not to diagnose AIDS, but to detect antibodies to the virus. If the result is positive, it does not necessarily mean that you have AIDS or will get it.
The results of your test will be provided to a consular officer.
A positive test result will mean that you will not be eligible to receive a visa. A positive test result could also have other local consequences on your day-to-day activities in this country.

Vaccination Requirement

The United States immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations (listed below, age groups also given) prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirement, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations:

VACCINE AGE GROUP
  • Diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, pertussis (DTP/DtaP/DT):
  • 2 months - 6 years
  • Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids, pertussis (Td/Tdap):
  • Td from 7 years on; Tdap 10 - 64 years old
  • Polio:
  • 2 months - 17 years
  • Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR):
  • 1 year - 64 years, if born in 1957 or later
  • Rotavirus:
  • 2 - 6 months old
  • Influenzae type b (Hib):
  • 2 - 59 months old
  • Hepatitis A:
  • 12 - 23 months old
  • Hepatitis B:
  • birth - 18 years old
  • Meningococcal (MCV/MPSV):
  • 11 - 18 years old
  • Human papillomavirus:
  • for females 11 - 26 years old
  • Varicella:
  • from 1 year on
  • Zoster:
  • 60 years or older
  • Pneumococcal:
  • 2 - 59 months; 65 years or older
  • Influenza:
  • 6 - 59 months old; 50 years or older (annually in flu season)

In order to assist the panel physician, and to avoid delays in the processing of an immigrant visa, all immigrant visa applicants must have their vaccination records available for the panel physician's review at the time of the immigrant medical examination. Visa applicants should consult with their regular health care provider to obtain a copy of their immunization record, if one is available. If the applicant does not have a vaccination record, the panel physician will determine which vaccinations are needed to meet the requirement. Certain waivers of the vaccination requirement are available upon the recommendation of the panel physician. Only a physician can determine which of the listed vaccinations are medically appropriate for the applicant, given the age, the medical history and the current medical condition.

    Validity of Medical Examination Results

Maximum validity of medical examination results is one year with at least 6 months' validity required on the day of visa issuance. If the exam has less than 6 months' validity, the visa is limited to the validity of the examination results.
